Tuesday Treats: Cocktails!

Welcome to the holiday edition of Tuesday Treats!

I thought long and hard about a giveaway I could do this month that would help you get through the holiday season and I decided that helping you make delicious drinks is probably a good start.

So today you’re getting the chance to win a cool cocktail set so you can mix up some good libations over the holidays.

The Cocktail Kit

There are a ton of bar kits out there that come with all kinds of fancy pants tools and gadgets.  As a previous bartender, I rarely used most of them.

Unless you are getting very advanced in your mixology, here are the most used tools in my opinion, all of which are included if you win this Tuesday Treat!

Shaker and Mixing Glass – In my opinion, the shakers that have the built in strainer are always kind of bad.  They leak.  They are hard to open.  They are even harder to clean.  The best way to shake is with a large stainless steel shaker glass and a pint glass.  The two fit together and create a perfect seal so you can shake away like a pro.

The mixing glass that’s included also comes with some popular recipes printed right on the glass for easy measuring!  I have this glass and it’s really helpful actually.

Strainer – If you’re making cocktails, it’s important to strain the drinks if you want a really professional look.  This way you can shake with ice and then strain into a martini glass or even just strain it over fresh ice.

Muddler – Maybe it’s just me, but I think muddled drinks are delicious.  A good muddler is a must have for me.

Jigger – If you bartend professionally, you can eyeball some drink measurements, but honestly even great bartenders still measure complicated drinks.  The jigger that’s included in the giveaway is a great one that measures 1 ounce on one side and 1.5 ounces on the second side.  There are also incremental markings in the inside so you can measure out stuff like 1/4 or 1/3 of an ounce.

It’s the only jigger you should need really.

So, if you win this Tuesday Treat then you’ll get all five of those tools sent to you.  They should arrive before the holidays so you can practice some mixology!

Tuesday Treat Rules

Just a reminder about the Tuesday Treat rules.

The whole idea behind these giveaways is that they are quick.  This contest will close at 7PM Eastern time tonight (Tuesday) and I’ll pick THREE winners at random.  That means that you have just 12 hours to sign up.  Unfortunately, I can’t ship internationally so just U.S. entries please.

Those three winners will get all of the above cocktail kit sent to them and I’ll do my best to make sure it gets there before the holidays!

How to enter?

It doesn’t get much easier.  Just leave a comment and you’re entered!  If you wanted to go above and beyond, maybe include a link to one of your favorite cocktails!

Good luck everyone!

The winners for this Tuesday Treat were Angie, Tammy, and vanillasugarblog!  Congrats winners!

  1. Glad I’m not the only one up at the freaking crack of dawn in Colorado! I’m already contemplating my post-finals cocktail. ;)

  2. I have a dear friend who hosts an adult beverage party at his home every Friday …. this is a great idea for a Christmas gift for him!

  3. as a former bartender (also formerly in DC) I’d love this set! I this open to international readers? Please say yes!

      1. amazon.de and amazon.co.uk will :)
I’ll just have to resort to drinking from the bottle now! hehe

  4. I love this! As a former bartender, I can also vouch for the fact that these are basically the only things I ever used at the bar (except for pour spouts) and they were necessary for just about any non-soda including beverage that is made.

  5. ooh yes please! I’m a simple cranvod girl, but have been known to mix up some fancier cocktails too.

  6. That looks awesome! I love that the glass has recipes on the side to make things easy on you. (Probably helpful after a couple of those drinks!)

  7. I don’t tend to drink a lot of cocktails- a dark & stormy is usually all I need. Still, this would be great to win. Thanks!

  8. Oh man, I could use that set this holiday season. I’m hosting x-mas and new years!

BTW, your website is WAY better than TFIMB… He’s a chump compared to you!

  9. Oh- Oh – Oh- ME ME ME!!

I would love to feel all professional this holiday season, I am sure my friends don’t mind the stiff drinks, but I prefer a good drink over getting smashed. LOL

    Thanks- Happy Holidays Nick!

  10. I’ve been thinking about getting a kit. A friend of mine has really gotten into mixology and it would be nice if I have the proper tools for him when he comes over to my house. He makes a mean Mexican Martini!

  11. Great giveaway! I don’t have a link to my favorite, because I don’t think there is one. Here, however, is the simple recipe for a “Russian Qualude”:

1 shot each of Vodka, Kahlua, Amaretto, Frangelico and Baileys! Shake over ice to chill and strain into glass.

It tastes like an Arby’s mocha milkshake, but it will certainly sneak up on you. Definitely not something to have if you are driving or operating heavy machinery or small appliances, especially those with sharp blades, such as food processors, stick blenders, etc. Come to think of it, don’t handle any sharp objects at all…not even toothpicks! ;)

    1. P.S. If you don’t have Amaretto or Frangellico, just double up on the one you do have.

  12. Definitely Mojito’s all the way! I love them thing! And vodka Lemonade made with lemon juice and simple syrup. Yum.

  13. I’ve been on a big cocktail kick recently. This cold weather just screams for a bourbon cocktail after a delicious hearty dinner!

  14. I’m feelin’ lucky! I’ve been making hot apple cider with Tuaca. It’s not much of a cocktail but it is warming and delicious!

  15. I love pomegranate martinis. I use the juice of half a lemon, a shot or three of vodka, and fill the rest of my martini glass up with juice. Yum.

      1. This really did make my day. I have had a VERY bad day at work….so this is clearly picking me up!!! Thanks Nick!!

  16. I could use a set :) I tried to mix cocktails with two glasses and managed to get booze everywhere!

  17. I made an impromptu cocktail last weekend.

I mashed a handful of pomegranate seed(?) with a little stevia
Added a jigger of spiced rum and about 2 ounces of pomegranate lifewater zero.

Served over ice, tasty, refreshing and fairly low calorie.

  18. My favorite cocktail is the violet femme from Tavern Law in Seattle. There’s no recipe online, but here it is as told to me by a bar tender:

    1.5 parts vodka
    .75 parts lemon
.5 parts creme de violette (or less to taste)
    .5 parts rosemary simple syrup

Shake and strain. Garnish with rosemary sprig (and a cherry, if you like).

*To make the rosemary simple syrup:
    .5 parts sugar
    .5 parts hot water
    fresh rosemary

    Steep 15 min and strain.

  19. My boyfriend’s bar would be complete with this set!! He has been working so hard to get everything set up an would love this for the holidays. I hope I win so I can give the set to him!

  20. Well that’s exciting. One of my coworkers is working on distilling bourbon (shhhh!) so I’ve got a decently-steady supply of booze that is just asking to be turned into mint juleps (it’s not *quite* to the “sippin’ whiskey” level yet, but good enough for a mixed drink).

    Hope I win something.

My wife, by the way, loves your yogurt pancake recipe. We tried it after I found your blog a month or so ago and it’s now our go-to for Saturday mornings.

  21. I had the most wonderful passion fruit cocktail in Costa Rica last spring, can’t wait for passion fruit season again!

  22. My new kick is cucumber vodka. It’s so refreshing! Effen makes one and for an Effen Good Time, mix it with a bit of lime, cointreau and soda or sprite.

  23. Yay, I get to Make cocktails ALL THE TIME!! Thank you for the giveaway!
I’ve been following your Blog for a Year now. I love that you have the Polls where I get to vote on what you may make next. If you have any great chicken breast recipes, give’em here!! My family LIVES on chicken!! Thanx!!!

  24. I would love to give this set to my husband. We currently have two of those crappy mixers with built in strainer. One leaks and the other is impossible to take apart like you mentioned!

  25. Mr. Marquis’ Marvelous Stuffing got me through Thanksgiving, this party in a glass needs to get me through Christmas!!

  26. I am a devout follower of your blog and have recommended it to all of my friends! If I win this set I will host a cocktail party with my foodie friends and serve my favorite Macheesmo recipes and drinks!! I will send you the pics to boot!

  27. I just served this drink at a cocktail party and it was a hit:
1/2 oz vodka, 2 oz sparkling cranberry juice, 3 oz champagne and fresh squeezed lime

  28. I’ve got one of these on my Christmas Wish-maybe I’ll be able to take it off of there after tonight! An Old Fashioned is my favorite but I don’t really need a shaker for that do I? What I would make is a Sweet Tart:
    4 Parts Vodka
    1 Part Lime Juice
    1 Part Pineapple Juice
    1 Part Chambord
Shake with ice, strain and serve.
    This baby packs a punch….

  29. My favorite cocktail is definitely month-old rum that I found under my bed mixed with leftover cran-apple from a nasty cold I’m getting over… What? No one else?

  30. My favorite drink is a vodka martini. The shaker will come in handy. Vodka and just a drop (literally) of vermouth. Next is Irish Whisky with a lemon twist wiped around the rim of the glass on the rocks.
    Happy Holiday

  31. Been experimenting with infusing my own liquors (vodka now bourbon). This would be fabulous for mixing my cocktails!

      1. That looks amazing! Definitely will give that a go. Also thinking about doing a black walnut infusion.

  32. You say it the pint glass and stainless steel glass form a perfect seal, but whenever I am at a bar and see the bartender shaking away, I just know they are going to slip and the contents of my drink are going to go everywhere! ;)
