The Internet Kitchen: Knee Update

The Internet Kitchen: Knee Update

For those of you who are regular Macheesmo readers, you might recall that I tore my ACL playing basketball about six months ago. I then had surgery on said ACL five months ago and I’ve been in recovery mode all summer.

To be completely honest, my recovery has been less than ideal. For much of the summer I was way behind schedule on my recovery. I was supposed to be back to running after four months and I’m just now getting there.

If anything, this injury has taught me that the body is a strange thing and it will heal, but it will do it on its own terms. You can’t rush it and it’s probably a bad idea to chart your recovery against people ten years younger than you!

But the good news is that my knee has finally started to really heal quickly the last few weeks. Therapy is going well and I’m starting to run miles instead of minutes.

This is good news because I have some big things planned for the fall. Betsy and I are going to Peru and hiking the Incan trail which will be intense and I’m also planning on doing the Insanity 60 day workout challenge in the winter.

I think I’m going to have to push myself a bit during both of these, but I think my knee will be okay for it.

Flourless Chocolate Cake – More than a couple people have emailed me the last few weeks talking about how they are trying out the Gluten-free thing. I totally get it, but I will probably never do it because I have an intense love for pasta and breads. But here is a delicious looking chocolate cake for you Mother. (@ My Baking Addiction)

Sweet and Sticky Wings – Speaking of wings, I intend to make these or some spin on these in the next month of my life. (@ White on Rice Couple)

Torch Snacks – I came up with these fun little torch snacks for the Olympics. I loved how they came out and were very easy. (@ Zak Designs)

I’m trying to get some new gigs and work with new companies. If you know anyone who is in need of some delicious recipe creation, pass along my site PLEASE. (@ Nick Evans Writes)

  1. Glad your knee is finally healing! Proceed with caution on the Insanity workout, though. I started it and had to stop after a couple of weeks because it was way too hard on my knees. Granted, I had some knee problems growing up, so your results may vary. I would just be sure your knee is fully healed before starting the Insanity program.

Your trip to Peru sounds amazing. Looking forward to reading about it!
