The Internet Kitchen: Busted!

The Internet Kitchen: Busted!

Jump to Recipe

A few days ago I completely twisted my knee playing basketball.  I knew it was bad when I felt a pop…

After icing it and taking lots of Advil it feels okay as long as I’m not walking on it, but the exact diagnosis is still out from the doctors.

The doctor I saw yesterday had quite the sense of humor.  After he pulled and pushed on my leg for a while and muttered a few things in “doctor-speak”, I asked him what he thought it might be.

Totally straight-faced he says:

I think your knee is messed up!

Fair enough!

As you are reading this I’m probably stuck in a metal tube getting an MRI which will hopefully reveal that I don’t need major surgery.

Anyway, trying to keep a positive attitude about it.

Chorizo Stuffed Jalapenos – This is an awesome twist on jalapeno poppers basically.  I can imagine blowing through a few trays of these during March Madness in a few weeks. (@ Milk & Mode)

Kimchi Chicken Wings – I love chicken wings.  Definitely one of my favorite appetizers.  I’ve absolutely never thought to put one of my favorite condiments (kimchi) on them until now. (@ The Food in My Beard)

Homemade Soy Milk – OK.  So you need a pretty fancy blender to really make this work, but it’s a great read and looks delicious!  (@ Tiny Urban Kitchen)

Braided Roasted Red Pepper Bread – What is this creation?!  I can imagine this toasted with some honey or butter on it.  I absolutely love the color!  (@ Erin Cooks)

Huevos MotulenosI’m a sucker for any Mexican dish, especially if it’s got eggs on it.  I want this immediately.  (@ Simply Recipes)

  1. Argh! So sorry to hear about your knee, man. I just came off a pretty bad knee tweak myself, and I know how frustrating it is. Stairs are suddenly Public Enemy #1.

Feel better, buddy. Thank G-d the Internet’s around to keep you company while you ice that darned thing.

    1. Ha! I love Louis. I’m not quite there, but I get that… the doc was definitely saying things like that… like if I were 10 years older… i’d just have a crappy knee for the rest of my life.

  2. Sounds like a torn ACL to me. As long as it isn’t totally blown out, any surgery needed would be simple and done with a scope.

  3. Ruff Ruff! LOL sorry, I just crack up every time I see “Speak!”. Hope your feeling better, and saying a prayer for your poor knee. It happens to the best of us, so, just grab a book, or a movie and chill. But then again not much else you should be doing at this point. Take care, holler if you need anything.

  4. Hey Nick,

Sorry to hear about your knee! That totally stinks man, take it easy and good luck!!

As the great John Lennon once said-” life is what happens when we are busy making plans.”

I feel your pain, I haven’t been around cause I had surgery last week- my gallbladder decided to throw a fit! I am in my 30’s and relatively healthy- but it was not. Apparently spicy food, alcohol and greasy foods cause gall stones. BOOO

  5. Hi Nick,

So sorry for the knee! I know these thinks always happen at the worst possible time because we never have time for injuries. I voted for take out so you can keep the knee up and iced. You should start the Ibuprofen too. (yes mom) Now, the big question…..Does Betsy cook? Maybe you could shout directions from the couch and she could make her debut!! Other wise it is take out for sure!

  6. I tore a tendon in my ankle playing tennis in high school… and it still bothers me on occasion. I hope you have better luck with your knee! Take care of that knee and I hope feel better soon!

  7. I hope you at least enjoy the MRI!! I sprained my ACL several months ago and the 25 minutes I spent in that metal tube was the most relaxing, doze inducing me (alone!) time in forever. I have a toddler.
In all seriousness, I hope you feel better quick and it isn’t something long lasting!!

    1. Actually it was very relaxing! They piped in some classic rock and I just chilled. I almost wanted it to go longer…..

  8. Oh my gosh Nick! I hope you feel better soon and that it isn’t too terribly serious. But just in case it’s totally OK to pour yourself a big glass of whiskey. It will give you courage!

By the way, thank you for linking to my braided bread post. I love that you pointed out the insane color. Pretty wild, right? Even mother nature can make neon at times.

    Take care of yourself!

  9. Even though I’d love to see you order take out, I ordered up a cocktail in the poll. I think you deserve one. So sorry about your knee. I read an article in the March Saveur magazine that made reference to far Eastern belief that you should eat whatever body part is ailing If that means cartilage, I think you should interpret this broadly, and maybe go for a pork knuckle instead of knee. Or just boil the hell out of a knee bone from a hearty animal and make a stock :)

  10. What a bum deal, I hope it is nothing serious. Just wanted to tell you I really enjoy your food blog, I check it out quite often. Here’s to a speedy recovery!!
