The Internet Kitchen: From Far and Wide

The Internet Kitchen: From Far and Wide

It turns out that living in Denver is awesome. My evidence for this is that Betsy and I have had a ton of friends and family visit us since we moved here. This weekend we have two of our friends coming to visit, one of whom is actually responsible for Betsy and I meeting each other!

We are going to try to squeeze in a short hike since this might be the last warm weekend we have here before the snow sets in. Mostly though, I expect the weekend to center around excellent beer, lots of Porter play time (we might put on his hot dog costume), Tipsy petting, these tacos, and possibly these pancakes.

Maybe, just maybe, I can convince the ladies to come play video games with me at my new favorite bar, 2UP, which features all the video games from my childhood for 25 cent plays, plus cheap beer!

No poll this week, but here are some great links from around the web!

The Links

Whatever, Martha – Martha Stewart offended approximately fifty million bloggers last week when she basically said we had no skills. While I was thinking something along the lines of, “TAKE A HIKE MARTHA,” Adam Roberts wrote an actual, thoughtful response. (@ Amateur Gourmet)

Chili Roasted Tofu – Beautiful recipe and looks like a guaranteed way to get super-crispy tofu which is always what I’m shooting for. Glad it is pomegranate season also. (@ Sprouted Kitchen)

Crockpot Applesauce – I sometimes forget that real applesauce and the stuff from the store is basically two different foods. This applesauce looks deliciously rich and filled with lots of good spices. Plus, you can make it while you’re at work! (@ My Baking Addition)

100 Pumpkin Recipes – In case you need some pumpkin inspiration in the next few weeks, here’s a cool recipe round up from a few years ago! (@ Endless Simmer)

Heritage vs. Commercial – This is a quick post but a perfect visual demonstration on the difference between heritage hogs and factory farmed pigs. Not even mentioning the cruelty aspects of factory farming, the heritage pigs just look like different animals. (@ Ruhlman)

pumpkinorzoThis Week’s Meal Plan

This week’s meal plan is centered around a common item this time of year: pumpkins! Not usually thought of as food here in the states (except for pies), there are actually a ton on really delicious savory dishes to make with pumpkin. The meal plan will teach you how to roast a whole pumpkin for eating and also includes 3 great pumpkin dinners! You can sign up now for Macheesmo Meals and get a free week to try out the plans (there are now a dozen total) and see if you like them!
