Creamy Peanut Butter Banana SmoothieJump to Recipe
School is out (so I hear) and summer is on. I’m already imagining next year when our oldest is in actual school and the summers will become a whirlwind of camps, play dates, and rushed impromptu childcare.
One thing I’ve learned though is that if I can get my kids some high protein snacks throughout the busy days, everything just seems to go smoother. They are less fussy and everybody has more fun.
I’m partnering with Horizon Organic this year to bring you some really delicious recipes. I love that some of their dairy comes from 600+ organic family farms all across the U.S. and they never use any toxic persistent pesticides, antibiotics, or added hormones on their cows, or GMOs in any of their dairy products.
So yea. They produce amazing milk with DHA Omega-3 and I wanted to highlight it in this quick and easy summer smart snack! SMOOTHIES!
My kids love smoothies and this one goes down really easy! Peanut butter and banana?! Yes please. I used Horizon Organic DHA Whole Milk for my version. Added DHA is a great nutrient that supports brain and eye health and I like the creaminess of whole milk in the smoothie. If you wanted slightly less fat or calories, you could make it with their reduced fat milk or if you want to win extra points from your kiddos, try it with their chocolate milk. WHOA.
Between the milk and the peanut butter, one small serving of this smoothie has a whopping 12 grams of protein (there are 8 grams of protein per serving of Horizon Organic DHA Whole Milk)! It’s a great way to fuel up and cool down during these hot summer months!
With just a few ingredients you can have a protein-rich snack ready in minutes! This cool creamy Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie tastes almost like a milkshake but has about 12g of protein per shake!
1) Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
2) Garnish smoothies with a drizzle of peanut butter and a sprinkle of chia seeds. Serve while cold!
Creamy PB Banana Smoothie!
This recipe is pretty easy and it pays big time dividends. I love it so much!
If you have a good blender, you can use chunky peanut butter. It’ll all get blended together, but smooth peanut butter is best.
I have one trick and one secret ingredient to make this smoothie really special.
First, add some ice to it. It’s a really rich smoothie and the ice helps chill it down, but also lightens it up a bit.
The secret ingredient is chia seeds! You could leave them out and not affect the flavor much, but just a tablespoon of chia seeds adds a bunch of fiber and even more protein to the smoothie. They are SO good for you!
Blend this all together and you are in business!
My kids absolutely loved this Creamy Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie and I would bet money that your kids will as well. It has become a weekend constant at our house this summer!
Cheers to summer!

Hello! My name is Nick Evans and I write and manage Macheesmo. I started Macheesmo 11 years ago when I was just learning my way around the kitchen. I love to cook and love everything food-related, but I have no formal training. These days I focus on fast, accessible recipes with the occasional “reach” recipe!
I’ve posted almost 2,000 recipes on Macheesmo. For each one, I do my best to give full explanations of what I did and tips on what I’d do differently next time. I’ll bring up the tricky parts and the easy parts.
I hope you can find something and cook something!
