Baby Shower Weekend

Baby Shower Weekend

Jump to Recipe

Betsy has been on the fence about whether or not she really wanted a baby shower for our upcoming new addition. On the one hand, it’s a fair amount of work and we didn’t want to make people feel like they had to come and/or buy us a bunch of crap.

On the other hand, people love babies.

It turns out that the other hand won out and when Betsy let it slip that she was even considering not having a baby shower, the troops rallied. Her mom, sister, and sister-in-law are swooping in to Denver this weekend and throwing her a full-on party situation.

My job? Cook obviously. I planned a full menu of fun Tex-Mex dishes and will post a more thorough wrap up on the recipes and party next week.

My second job? As soon as I get done cooking, I’m getting the hell out of there to go watch football and drink bourbon. It’s my goal to leave before the diaper cake makes an appearance. (I’m assuming there will be some sort of diaper art.)

The Links

I feel like now that I’m on Pinterest, I’m finding more fun things to link to on Fridays! Here’s some stuff that caught my eye this week.

Guide To Denver – I’ve considered writing a guide to what to do in the Mile High City because I get a lot of questions about where to go and, more importantly, where to eat. This is such a great starter guide, I’m not even sure I need to do it now. I’ll just link to this! (@ Oh, Lady Cakes)

White Bean Tortellini Soup – This is not one of those soups that you have as a starter. It’s a damn meal on its own and that’s a good thing. A huge bowl of this for dinner will make it okay that it’s getting cold now. (@ How Sweet It Is)

Pumpkin Swirl Brownies – Pumpkin crazy season is almost over, and I’m generally lukewarm about shoving pumpkin into everything, but I love the bright color on these and I’m sure they are so rich and delicious. (@ White on Rice Couple)

Farro with Swiss Chard – I really love sturdy grain salads during the fall. They are hardy, but sort of feel like the season, if that makes sense. I’ll eat salads like this for lunch or dinner! (@ Simply Recipes)

The Husk Cheeseburger – My love for Sean Brock started when I watched The Mind of a Chef. He pretty much sums up my ideal cheeseburger with this one. (@ Food Republic)

Mushroom Florentine Pasta – Another great looking fall dinner. I have a special place in my heart for mushroom sauces made from scratch. (@ She Wears Many Hats)

Have a great weekend everybody! If you need me, I’ll be dodging diapers. Great photo by Ron Aguilar.

  1. Well I am glad to hear that Betsy has agreed to a baby shower. Like you said, people love babies. They love to go shopping and ooh and aah over all the cute things that little humans get to wear and be adorable in. I am also going to be having a baby shower, but not until baby is born. I don’t see my relatives very often so I sm sure they would like to see the baby on one of our rare get togethers. It’s nice just to spend time with important people in our lives. Anyway, looking forward to hearing about betsy’s shower.
