Around the Internet Kitchen: Day Drinking

Around the Internet Kitchen: Day Drinking

For Memorial Day, Betsy and I went over to a friend’s house and had some margaritas. There may not be anything more relaxing than a few cold drinks on a hot summer day. In fact, it is almost essential in DC to sometimes partake in a few drinks… it is simply too hot not to.

And if you don’t drink alcohol, that’s fine. A cold glass of water or lemonade can be just as satisfying. The point is that summer is a great time to start up the grill, play some frisbee (or bocce ball!), and hang out with friends. But seriously. Ritas are my favorite.

So try to do those things this weekend. Meanwhile, some links!

Bill Marler Pays for Pollan’s Ticket – Apparently, Washington State University wanted Michael Pollan to come speak to incoming students and also give his book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, as introductory reading. At some point though the idea got shot down either because of political or economic pressure. Bill Marler, long time food safety advocate, declared that it had to be economic and offered to pay Michael Pollan’s ticket and fees. Awesome stuff. WSU quickly accepted the offer. (@ Marler Blog)

Veggie Burgers with Cilantro Mayo – I’m living with a vegetarian now, and it is grill season. That means I’m constantly on the lookout for some interesting veggie burger recipes. Because while I do love a beef patty, I’m not one to hate on a very good veggie burger. This one looks pretty tasty! (@ Recipe Girl)

Quantity Surcharges and 10 Products to Watch – Turns out that sometimes food producers actually charge you to buy a larger package. This is opposite of my instinct. I always thought that you get a discount by buying in bulk, but it turns out that that isn’t always true with all products and it is very important to know what those products might be! Asian Mussel Salad – I somehow missed this very interesting recipe from Mr. Bittman. I’m not linking to the Bittman post though, but to a different post because I like her photos and I’m sure Bittman’s blog gets enough links. ;) I’m not even sure if I would like this salad, but it just looks so colorful and interesting that I thought I would share it. Have a good weekend everyone. Get those grills going!
