The Internet Kitchen: Frozen Tundra

by Nick

Every year Betsy and I travel up to Wyoming to visit my family for at least a few days. This year we are going for almost a week.

It’s always an interesting trip for me, to go back to my hometown where I grew up. Sometimes I find myself in a random bar catching up with people I haven’t seen in many years and sometimes I do nothing but lay on the couch in my old living room and read. It can go either way, but it’s always something I look forward to.

This year we have a large number little ones in the house which I’m sure will be fun. Both of my step siblings have new babies and my sister has a few kids as well and we will all be under the same roof building gingerbread housing and causing chaos.

I’ll be posting a few things over the next few days, including a great brunch dish tomorrow and a fantastic holiday appetizer on Monday, but other than that I’ll be taking it easy.

If you’re traveling, I hope you get where you are going safely.

Happy Holidays everyone!

The Links

Chocolate Toffee Popcorn – If you’re still looking for a few small gifts for people, make this simple toffee popcorn recipe, just try not to eat it all, and then package it in little tins and give it away as gives. Perfect. (@ My Baking Addiction)

Classic Standing Rib Roast – I’ve made a few rib roasts in my day and they always turn out pretty solid if you have a good thermometer. This method looks excellent though. (@ Ruhlman)

Coffee Rubbed Steak - Flank steak is all the rage these days and a simple coffee rub looks delicious to me. Topping it with a seasonal cranberry salsa just makes sense. (@ Healthy Delicious)

30 Recipes You Should Know By 30 – I’m not sure that I agree exactly with this list, but I actually can make everything on it! I’ll take that as a win! (@ Huff Post)

beefandbrocThis Week’s Meal Plan

I love fiddling with Asian-style dishes even though I’ve never been to Asia. I find the flavors so delicious and interesting. This week’s meal plan centers around some of my favorite Asian dishes that work great in the winter. Stir fries, curries, noodle bowls… it’s all here.

You can sign up now for Macheesmo Meals and get a free week to try out this plan and the others (there are now around 20 total) and see if you like them!
