Pukey Pancakes

by Nick

“Dude, somebody puked on your short stack!” Said nobody ever.

Who doesn’t love a real gross out meal during Halloween though? After all, I figure most of you lovely readers know that I’m not the guy that’s going to make cute ghost cupcakes. I’m much more likely to make fake vomit (that’s actually delicious) and put it on something that will scare children.

Someday I will have kids (I think) and I will make this and create some intense back story on how someone puked on my pancakes.

Then I will eat it in front of them and be crowned king of pranks.

Pukey Pancakes

Pukey Pancakes

Ingredients

  • Puke:
  • 1 cup apple sauce
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 drop blue, green, and red food coloring
  • Pancakes:
  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 Cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 Tablespoons melted butter

Directions

Puke:
1) Combine oats, apple sauce, and peeled and diced apple in a small bowl.
2) Pour in boiling water and stir together.
3) Add food coloring and let sit for 15-20 minutes so it thickens.

Pancakes:
1) Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk together milk, buttermilk, eggs in a separate bowl.

2) Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients then stir in melted butter.

3) On a griddle or in a large nonstick skillet, add a small dab of butter over medium heat. Once butter is melted pour in pancake batter in 1/2 cup amounts.

4) Do a test pancake first. If it is too thick, add more milk to thin the batter. If it is really thin, add more flour by the tablespoon.

5) Cook pancakes for about 3-4 minutes until they firm around the edges and start to bubble on top. Then flip.

6) Cook for 2-3 minutes on the second side.

7) Serve pancakes immediately, with puke mixture, and maple syrup!

The Puke!

This meal is maybe the best example ever of the rule that we eat first with our eyes.

Even though the “puke” is made of wonderful ingredients that taste great, especially on pancakes with syrup, because they look gross, it seems gross.

This is all you need though, plus a few drops of food coloring.

vom

Total Vom.

Peel and dice your apple and then stir together your apple sauce and oats in a small bowl. Add about 1/2 cup of boiling water to the mixture which gets absorbed by the oats.

Then add a single drop of red, blue, and green food coloring which will make the whole thing a kind of strange brownish color.

You know the color.

gross

Pretty gross.

The Pancakes

This is my standard homemade pancake batter. You probably have most of the stuff to make it in your pantry.

Just mix together the dry ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk together the wet ingredients in a second bowl. Stir the wet into the dry and then mix in your melted butter. Done deal!

If you don’t have buttermilk you can use all milk for the recipe without a problem.

The tricky part about pancakes is just making sure the batter is the right consistency. It should be pretty loose.

I generally like to make a small test pancake with mine and if it is too thick then I add a bit more milk to thin out the batter. If the tester is too thin then I’ll add a bit more flour to thicken the batter a bit.

panckaes

My favorite batter.

I like to measure out my pancakes in about 1/2 cup measurements.

Cook the pancakes over medium heat and melt a little butter in the pan before you pour in the batter.

They will need to cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side. When the pancakes start to firm up around the edges and bubbles form on top, it is ready to flip.

This guy is about 20 seconds away from a flip.

ready

About ready to flip!

Flip with confidence and it should be golden brown.

The second side will just need to cook for 2-3 minutes to finish the pancake.

flipped

Lookin’ good.

Serve these guys with a heaping helping of your fake-out vomit and lots of maple syrup.

Like I said, even though they look gross, they are actually very delicious.

dish

Seriously very good.

If anyone actually makes these and serves them to their family, you get a GOLD STAR.

Be sure to leave a comment and tell me how disgusting this is.
