The Cornerstone Forums

One of the first things I did when I was coming up for the idea for Cornerstone Cooking was to brainstorm a huge list of all of the dishes that could be considered cornerstone dishes.

I stopped when I reached around fifty.

There are a lot of dishes that you can use as ingredients for other dishes.

I picked eight of these dishes to be the backbone of the book, but I still felt like there was more to the project.

So I decided to build a website around the book.  While the site has some promotional pages and information on the book, the real meat of the site is the forum section.

What Good Are Forums?

I’m pretty sure there are almost as many forum sites on the Internet as there are blogs.  Everyone and their sister has a forum site.

In my humble opinion, forums are really only successful if they have a specific focus.  You should be able to go to the forum and ask questions about a specific topic and then like-minded people will hopefully be able to help you with your problem.

That’s what I’ve tried to do with this forum. While their are sections of the forum for general cooking questions and cookbooks, the main parts of the forum are for coming up with ideas for leftovers.

Say you have some hard-boiled eggs in your fridge that you aren’t sure what to do with.  You could come to the Cornerstone forums and post a quick question and hopefully get some fun ideas for how to use those eggs in other dishes.

I plan to spend a lot of time on the site asking and answering posts so it’s a great way to get my input on an idea.

Signing Up

I have too many logins for websites and I’m sure you do also.  Normally, if a website makes me register for it, I think long and hard about whether or not I’m going to use it.

I took that into account when I made this site.

While you can make a new login, it’s really easy to just use an existing login that you probably already have to login to the site.

Once you are logged in, you can ask and answer posts with ease.

Registration on this site is free and while the registration process does collect some basic info from you (namely email address), I won’t ever distribute your email and will use it sparingly to contact you.

The main reason why the site needs your email address is so that you can subscribe to topics and get email updates when people respond to your questions.

A Warning on Browsers: I built the Cornerstone Cooking site for newish browsers.  If you are using old versions of Internet Explorer (version 7 and older), the site will look WACKY.  I have no plans to make the site compatible with super-old browsers so you just need to update your browser if you want to use the site.

I’m giveaway happy this week.

To be entered for the book giveaway you had to actually purchase the book, but to be entered for this giveaway you don’t have to buy anything.
