The Internet Kitchen: Decompress Mode

by Nick

Wow. The last week has been a complete whirlwind for me. After 5 days in Austin for SXSW I’ve had my fill of margaritas, tacos, and tech-speak.

SXSW was a really cool experience. I met some great food writers including all the people on my panel (Stacie, Matt, and Nadia). If there’s one thing that I took away from it though, it’s that Internet companies have way too much money. Like. Whoa.

The day after I got back from SXSW I also filmed a short bit with the local NBC news team for St. Patty’s Day. So that required making a bunch of food and also being on my A game for at least 3 minutes. I think it’ll be a recurring thing, probably every other week.

All of this was super fun, but it left me really exhausted. I’m looking forward to a light weekend with a few beers and lots of basketball!

Since I’m back at home though, we can do a poll this week!

And a few links!

March Food MadnessAn absolutely epic list of all 68 teams in the NCAA tournament, ranked by their best drunk foods. If you need to blow a few hours, it’s a good read! (@ Endless Simmer)

A Bunch of Greens – One of my favorite posts that people did on St. Patty’s Day. It isn’t too kitschy or anything. Just cooking really good greens in a traditional way. Love it. (@ Food Blogga)

Steamed Pork Buns – This is one of those recipes that I want to make every time I see it. But for some reason it never makes it on the top of my list. I think it’s mainly out of fear! I’m gonna do though. You’ll see. (@ The Bitten Word)

Meatball Sliders – If you’re looking for a good appetizer for all the basketball games this weekend, these little sliders look pretty darn perfect! (@ Crepes of Wrath)

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Why do you get your Bon Appetit like weeks before me? Jealous. But with those choices – I'm now excited to keep checking the mail. Glad you had a great time at SXSW and congrats on the local news gig! So cool.

  2. Congratulations on your recent notoriety – been a busy week for me too, although I would have gladly traded to visit SXSW for a few days too. Please throw your video up on your blog when it airs so we can appreciate the celeb in our midst.

As your first direct advertiser I can only say I knew you when – continued success. I always love your work – not sure about those “Big O Cookies” does Michelle look at these recipes? 12 tablespoons (1.5 sticks of butter) for 30 cookies – he’s got to be playing a lot of hoops to offset that ;)
