The Internet Kitchen: Austin Bound!

by Nick

I’m leaving for SXSW today and I’m really excited. I’m excited to be in Austin where the food is good the beer is cold and the sun is hot. I’m excited to speak on a panel. I’m excited to learn a lot and meet some new people.

Some of my family that I haven’t seen in many years also lives in Austin so I’m turning the trip into a mini-family reunion also!

I’ll be there until Wednesday so I might be a bit slow to respond to comments and emails over the next few days.

If you happen to be going to SXSW be sure to hit me up so maybe we can meet. If you just want to follow what’s going on, follow me on Twitter as I’m sure I’ll be tweeting a lot since that’s what you do at SXSW.

No poll this week because my hotel room in Austin doesn’t have a kitchen unfortunately.

Some links though!

Swedish Pickled Herring – I’m actually kind of a big pickled herring fan, but they have to be good. I had some in Amsterdam a few years ago that were pretty solid. It never even occurred to me to try to make them. Of course, finding herring would probably be my biggest challenge. I never thought pickled fish could look so good though. Soda Bread Biscuits – Next week is St. Patty’s Day (Thursday) and these guys look perfect to get in the Irish spirit. Traditional soda bread is always good, but these biscuits are a fun spin on the traditional. (@ Simply Recipes)

Creamed Collard Greens – Sticking with the St. Patty’s Day theme, you’ll need something green and these creamed greens look awesome. You put some cream with sauteed veggies and I’m basically sold no matter what. (@ Food Loves Writing)

Irish Brown Bread – A traditional bread for the holiday. Pretty simple to make and it’s sure to soak up all that beer! (@ Brown Eyed Baker)

Irish Brownie Bombs – If you want to make something sweet for Thursday, these are about as Irish as you can get. They have beer and whiskey in them plus some fun clover leaf shapes! (@ Endless Simmer)

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I live in Austin! I'm excited that you're coming down for sxsw! It's going to be awesome. Shoot me an email! I've been following your blog for quite some time now and it'd be cool to meet you! Oh and I've been meaning to tell you that my secret mac and cheese weapon I make for parties/dinners is your Cast Iron Mac and Cheese :)

  2. Have a great time! Mr. Meister & were in Austin last weekend (it was my first time) and had such a great visit. There was already an incredible excited-about-SXSW vibe about the place; I can only imagine what fun it will be for you!

If you get a chance to escape all the indie rock, though, you should definitely do a little two-step at the Broken Spoke. I'd totally buy you a Shiner Bock if we were still there…
