The Internet Kitchen: Jeff Bridges!

by Nick

I’m a really big Jeff Bridges fan. This is mainly because he’s the main character in possibly my favorite movie of all time, The Big Lebowski.

These days I don’t go see too many movies in the theaters because A) they are expensive B) I don’t have time and C) I have streaming Netflix. But I’ve been to see two movies recently in the theaters and by complete chance both of them had my man, Jeff, in them.

One was very good and one was very bad.

The bad one was Tron. I don’t think I need to go into too much detail why this movie was bad. I hope Jeff got paid well for it. At least his character was a pacifist, much like The Dude.

The good one was True Grit. I generally love the Coen Brothers and this was no exception. It was the perfect mix of comedy, drama, action, and adventure. I didn’t even realize that it was a remake of an old John Wayne movie until I was talking to my Dad about it.

Anyway, if you’re looking to catch a flick, True Grit is good. The best thing about Tron was the cool shades I got to wear while watching it.

Since we’re on the subject of movies, the poll this week is meals from movies!

And a few links!

Chocolate Sea Salt Molten Cakes – Salted chocolate is heaven to me. Ok. Salt is heaven to me. But if I’m going to eat a rich chocolate dessert, it better be well-salted. This looks about right to me! (@ Sugar Laws)

Homemade Croutons – May seem easy enough, but it’s always a good reminder that this is easy. There’s some great tips to make your croutons even better. (@ Good Life Eats)

How to Build a Softbox Light – This is such an awesome walk-through for someone looking to improve their photography. Even though I have a “professional” one, I’m thinking of making this anyway because Dan’s actually looks sturdier to me. (@ The Food in My Beard)

Staub vs. Le Creuset – I have a Le Creuset pan that I’ve easily used a few hundred times, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Staub brand is equally sturdy. Seems like that might be the case. (@ Endless Simmer)

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I'm also a big fan of The Dude, not to mention the Coen brothers – will put it on my " movies to watch" list – thanks Nick! Have a great weekend!

  2. Hmm. You're right — you don't see many movies :) You need more GREAT movie-meal options up there! There are so many Italian type movies where they sit down to huge, delectable fare. I love the food in "Tortilla Soup." "Jump Tomorrow" has a great meal scene. Check them out!

  3. I had to vote for The Sandlot even though I haven't seen it…S'Mores is the PERFECT meal if you ask me! ;)

  4. Hmm, now I want to see True Grit, nice plug! FYI if you ever want to see an amazing amount of food porn in a movie, watch Eat Drink Man Woman – it's subtitled but don't let that scare you, wow the amazing Chinese cuisine! Makes me want to tackle Peking Duck…

  5. Woah, I have never seen Big Night, but that Timpano looks AMAZING. Please make that, and then mail me some. :)

  6. Dude! I thought Tron was terrrrrible. I saw it while my father in law was getting a root canal over our Christmas break and I think I would almost pick reading shitty magazines in a dentist's waiting room over Tron. Oof.

  7. I totally agree about Tron. Shockingly bad is how I would put it. On the other hand, True Grit had me thanking the stars at the Coen brother's and their take on the western. That being said, If you haven't already seen it, you have to check out Tampopo. It's a Japanese "Western" about woman trying to learn how to make the best ramen. It's a classic. Unfortunately, it's not on Netflix streaming. Gotta go traditional DVD (sigh)
My recent post bread smack down!
