The Internet Kitchen: New Year’s Eve!

by Nick

Well, 2010 is finally all wrapped up and ready to go. It was a great year for me and I’m hoping for all of you. That said, I’m really looking forward to 2011. I have some plans for the new year, but in general I’m kind of hoping that 2011 is a chill year.

2010 was too hectic for me.

Hopefully, you all have something fun planned to ring in the new year. Betsy and I are going to a fun house party, but we’ve been feeling pretty sick all week so I’m not sure how gung-ho we’ll be for all-night partying…

It has been a few weeks since I’ve done a poll so let’s kick off 2011 with something good!

I paged through my copy of The Flavor Bible and picked a few subjects at random. I’ll make something from what you all pick!

Hoppin’ John – Ok. Total self-promotion. This is a recipe I wrote for Tablespoon this week. But if you’re looking for a good hearty dish to make over the weekend, this is about as good as it gets. After all, black-eyed peas are supposedly good luck right? (@ Tablespoon)

Rice Krispie Treat Cupcakes – This is, umm, brilliant. It would be awesome to make these for a kid’s birthday party. So much fun. (@ Cupcake Project)

Date, Coconut & Walnut Truffles - Very original recipe for truffles. The flavors in these guys looks really intense. I’d love to have a plate of these tonight. (@ Brown Eyed Baker)

Lemony Cream Cheese Danish – I am not good at pastry dough. It’s my downfall. I cheat frequently and use the frozen stuff. The next time I do so, I’ll be making these. (@ Ezra Pound Cake)

Mini Shrimp Tacos – Super fun appetizer. My favorite part of this post is the trial and error of perfecting the mini taco shells. Good stuff. (@ TFIMB)

Have a great New Year everyone and be safe!

  1. Here's to a great and low key new year to you and your bride <clink> (that was the clinking of the toasting glasses).

Thanks for the great and also fun ideas you share. I haven't been following you for a long time but I've enjoyed what I've tried. I still need to get to the homemade version of the green bean casserole. That is still on my list of to-do's.

    HAPPY NEW YEARS!
    J.O.
