The Internet Kitchen: Turkey Day!

by Nick

I almost made a very serious error this year for Thanksgiving. Given that I’m only having a few people over, I thought it might be cool to do something a little different. So I thought I’d do a goose instead of a turkey.

Here’s a tip for you all: When making substantial meal changes to a classic meal like Thanksgiving dinner… run it by your spouse first. I think Betsy almost kicked me out of the house when I told her that I was thinking about a goose instead of a turkey.

So the turkey is back on the menu!

Maybe we’ll do the goose for Christmas…

No poll this week because I’m doing a shortened week of posts next week for the holidays.

Here’s a few links to get you ready for Thanksgiving though!

Five Ways to Drink Thanksgiving - A crazy list of drinks that use foods from Thanksgiving. I’m completely intrigued by the last one which is actually a new way to make turkey using a drink. It’s so crazy it just might work. (@ Endless Simmer)

Pig Candy – This. is. amazing. It might not be specifically for Thanksgiving, but I can’t really imagine a time when I wouldn’t want to eat this. (@ Former Chef)

How to Brine a Turkey – I’ll be honest. I really only cook turkey in one of two ways these days: Fried or brined. If I had a smoker, I’d do that too. But if you’re just roasting a bird, brine it and thank me later. (@ Savory Reviews)

Individual Turkey Pot Pies – My guess is that you’re going to have some leftovers in the next week of your life. This seems like a fantastic way to put them to use! (@ My Baking Addiction)

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. My family discovered one year that when you're making the traditional meal you have to make the traditional things using the recipes you've always made. You can add things in and slowly replace things out, but if you don't have the things that people are expecting.. Ooo boy! But adding extra dishes or options is pretty fun. I was a lacto/ovo vegetarian one year and in addition to the turkey I made a spinach lasagna and it was a big hit, but no one missed out on the turkey and gravy. :-)

    Love the site, thanks!

  2. Thanks for including my Pig Candy in the round up. It was a big hit when I brought it to dinner a few weeks ago and when my husband shared it with his coworkers.
