Around The Internet Kitchen: Zesty Giveaway!
If there’s one piece of kitchen equipment that I’ve grown to love over the last year or so, it’s been my microplane zester. It’s a perfect example of one of those kitchen tools that just works. It does so many different things and it does them all fabulously.
Here’s just a small list of what I use it for most frequently:
- Need to zest citrus of any kind? Lemon/lime/orange? You’re in luck.
- It does a fantastic job on any hard cheese like Parmesan.
- You can quickly grate up garlic on it.
- It’s great for ginger.
- It makes fresh nutmeg possible.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well, because Opensky is offering a free microplane zester to one lucky Macheesmo reader! Even better, if you sign up you’ll get a 10% off coupon on anything in my OpenSky Store. So even if you don’t win, you can pick up something at a discount! (The coupon does expire after a week though so you’ll have to move fast. Although a week isn’t really that fast people.)
Discounted kitchen tools are great right?! And free kitchen tools are better! So get on over there any get yourself one if you don’t already have one. You can thank me later.
For the poll this week I pulled together some of the great suggestions from my breakfast sandwich post. These are the ones I think I can realistically reproduce.
And a few links!
The Great Grocery Smackdown – This is a fascinating article and something that I didn’t really know was happening: Wal-Mart is becoming very competitive in the local and/or organic food markets. The reason, obviously, is because people must be requesting more of them and they want to stay competitive. I haven’t been inside a Wal-Mart in a very long time. They aren’t very accessible in DC actually. I have mixed feelings about this, but if Wal-Mart is behind a movement it must mean that a lot of money is flowing in that direction. (@ The Atlantic)
Nutritional Superiority of Pasture-Raised Animals – It looks like a few studies are finally proving what seems to be pretty common sense to me: If you feed animals what they are supposed to eat they will be healthier and therefore their meat and dairy will be healthier as well. Shocking. (@ HuffPo)
Grow Your Own Horseradish – I love love love fresh horseradish. For some reason I never even imagined growing my own. Looks pretty straightforward! (@ NY Times)
Not Your Momma’s Chicken Pot Pie – I’ve been meaning to make a good chicken pot pie recipe for awhile now and even though it’s almost not chicken pot pie season (I consider winter to be chicken pot pie season), I’m still considering making this. The biscuit top is calling me. (@ I Shot The Chef)
Have a great weekend everyone and go grab a zester!
