Around The Internet Kitchen: Happy Birthday To ME

It was my birthday yesterday. I turned a ripe old age of 27 which I think places me squarely in my upper-20′s. I was getting kind of tired of being a youngster anyway.

I’m actually not huge on birthdays. I’ll probably hit up a happy hour or something and then Betsy and I might go out to dinner somewhere. Normally, I discourage presents.

This year is totally different. I’m all about presents. Instead of getting them though, I decided to give a few!

Being that I do so love you guys, I decided to give out some small presents. I wasn’t really sure what you wanted for my birthday though so I’m just giving out TWO coupons for $25 off any order more than $40 in My OpenSky Store. So sure… ya have to spend money to make money, but it’s not a bad deal if you ask me!

All ya gotta do is leave a comment and I’ll pick two people at random tomorrow morning at 9AM (ish) and update this post with the winners!

Also, don’t forget to vote in this week’s poll!

And a few links…

Demystifying Hard Things to Cook - Five things that appear hard to cook that are actually pretty easy. I agree with most of these… of course there’s still plenty of room to mess these up. Why do you think it’s near impossible to get well-poached eggs at a restaurant!? (@ HuffPo)

How to Cook Grits – A fantastic little write-up on grits and also a photo of what appears to be the best breakfast ever created. I’ve been playing around with a grits dish of my own… more on Monday! (@ Ruhlman)

Hamentaschen - Never heard of it? Me neither. They are tiny little pastries and while they look like a bit of work, I bet they are very worth the effort! (@ Not Derby Pie)

Roasted Bone Marrow – I’ve never actually had bone marrow, but that’s going to change very soon! This post just rocked my world. I never really thought about making it at home for some reason, but it’s the perfect use for a thing that a lot of people would just throw away. (@ The Hungry Mouse)

Have a good weekend everyone. GO USA in hockey. If you’ve been eyeing something in my storefront, leave a comment for a chance to get that discount!

Update: Jen (#21) and Erin (#24) are winners!

Happy Birthday, KID! You are fine…for now. Turning 30 is the worst! If there were ever a time to hit happy-hour, it's when you turn 30. I spent mine at the officer's club in Aschaffenburg, Germany, crying in my beer! BTW…the $25 coupon is a SUPER deal! Larry

Happy Birthday Nick…27 you make it sound like you are actually getting old; wait until you turn 40 (that is me in a few weeks…yikes!). Have a good one.

As for the Bon Appetit recipes, the Soda Bread sounded the best to me. Cheers!
