You can definitely make them without dairy.  I would maybe try substituting chicken broth or veg broth and just mash them until they are moist and creamy.  Definitely keep the garlic.  You might also try drizzling in a bit of olive oil.  I&#039;ve used that before with mashed potatoes in a crunch.
