  1. I enjoyed this review. I admit to spending 30 minutes in a bookstore, ready to purchase the book. Then after I saw the 50 things a foodie should do, I decided I am not and never will be a “foodie.” I never liked the word anyway. If I were qualifying what I thought a “foodie” was, it would be someone who truly enjoys good food. A person who thinks about food, dreams about food and is committed to its quality, not in a sick, addictive way, but in a robust open-minded way that embraces food’s pleasures. Did you ever see the movie, The Big Night. That says it all.

  2. I’m a fan of Pim’s as well, so I definitely plan on checking this book out, especially after reading your review. I’m especially looking forward to reading about eating like a foodie. Few people really succeed at writing well about food, for exactly the reasons she says, but Pim does.

As for the infamous Top 50 list, that certainly does sound a touch elitist on her part. However–and I’m kind of just guessing here–the list is not meant to be taken that literally. Perhaps this list is more of a personal list of her own experiences that have made her into the foodie she is today. Maybe the suggestion is more to get out and try as much as you can so that eventually, you will have a list of accomplishments that is not identical to Pim’s, but that was inspired by it.

  3. Stop complaining and just try the hairy crab already.
