  1. Sorry about the crumb texture; but hey, they look perfect to me!! Bread-baking is definitely something that takes a lot of time and practice (and patience, which I lack, haha).

  2. This was by far the most educational and entertaining post on baguettes I’ve seen yet! I’ve got a bunch of rye dough in the fridge (I’m pretty into Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day) but as soon as that is gone, I’m jumping on the baguette-wagon. I’d like to start them NOW but alas, then I’ll eat nothing but bread all week, and we can’t have that…

  3. you’re too hard on yourself- this is a fantastic first attempt!!

if only I had an oven big enough to make a 6 foot baguette. That would ROCK. Homemade giant subs? I might never leave the house again…

  4. Wow, I’m impressed! That crust looks fantastic! Just make sure to let us know once you’ve got that six foot baguette mastered ;-)

  5. While I will never, ever attempt making baguettes, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post and admiring the lovely pictures. Bravo!

  6. Great job. Nick has made baguettes a few times now and they get better each time. Though we have always had the problem of not scoring enough, I don;t think you had such an issue :)

  7. These are beautiful – I’d be a very happy lady to have been at that bachelorette party and have fresh baguettes!
