The obvious big news item this week was the inauguration. It was great to be there to see history. The throngs of people were not as bad as I was expecting because everyone was in a really good mood.
There were very surreal moments like the one I snapped a photo of on the right where hundreds of thousands of people were entering an Interstate tunnel. It was the fastest, and really only, way on foot to get from one side of the mall to the other after the inauguration.
But now all of that is over and DC has resumed its normal flow. Well, there is a lot of garbage to be picked up both metaphorically and literally, but most people have returned to normal life.

Steak Tenderloin with Mushroom and Blue Cheese - After my New Year’s resolutions, I’ve been trying to eat less and less red meat, but let’s face it. I’m a carnivore. Sometimes I need a steak. This recipe I think brought me to that point. (@ Closet Cooking)
Blueberry Lemon Pancakes - I’m really not a huge pancake guy, but when I do eat them I want them to be awesome. These guys might just do the trick. Erin uses dried blueberries which are a nice change I think. Sometimes I don’t love fresh ones so much. These look awesome though. (@ Erin Cooks)
How to Caramelize Onions - This is something that I see go wrong in a bunch of recipes. Caramelizing onions is a slow, but delicious process. Elise does an awesome job of breaking it down. Heck, there is even a video. (@ Simply Recipes)
